Avignonesi

Avignonesi

Avignonesi winery, located in Montepulciano, southern Tuscany, is named after the founding family, whose constant research focused on expressing the true character of the Montepulciano terroir and earned this winery a well deserved place among the flagship producers of Tuscany.
In 2009, Avignonesi was acquired by Virginie Saverys, who chose to introduce organic farming techniques to the land in order to craft more distinct and genuine wines with an even stronger character. “We respect the heritage of Montepulciano where Sangiovese-based wines have been produced for centuries and we wish to contribute to its future by being the finest representative of its heritage that we can be. We respect the innate character of each and every wine and seek to follow its natural evolutionary path from the soil to the cellar and, finally, to the bottle. This explains our new motto: Terroir speaks; we listen."
Avignonesi is made up of 200 hectares (close to 500 acres) of wine producing estates that are situated at 300 meters above sea level, the majority of which are in the Montepulciano DOCG. The main estate of Le Capezzine includes a traditional vinsantaia (a Vinsanto production facility), the visitor’s center, the ageing cellars and a restaurant, in addition to the renowned Vigna Tonda (round vineyard) - an experimental vineyard which was created to research and test plant density.
