Capo Martino: The name comes from the hill acquired in 1991 in the heart of Collio, a 7.5-hectare vineyard that was renewed from 1996 to 2003 with the same traditional varieties. Fermented and aged in Slavonian oak 750-litre barrels for 12-16 months, it is sold two years after the harvest.
Tasting notes: Capo Martino blend of Tocai F., Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Picolit. "It has a beautiful golden yellow colour, bright and sparkling. Its aroma is intense and complex, with notes of local and exotic ripened fruit and of dried flowers imbued with a light veil of vanilla. Apple, banana, hazelnut, broom and passionflowers emerge. In the mouth it is velvety. It has a perfectly balanced taste, a delicate aromaticity, and infinite persistence. Excellent with chickpea purée and octopus sautéed with rosemary."
("Duemilavini" 2006 Guide, A.I.S., Capo Martino 2003)
Historical notes: With the 1991 harvest we produced, for a single vintage,
the "little dream of a promised land" to commemorate the "voyage" undertaken by our great-grandfather Anton 110 years before, from Bilijana (now in Collio Sloveno) to Villanova. The "little dream" resurrected the traditions and practices of past generations. We chose Ribolla Gialla and raisined Tocai because they are historic varieties. The label showed the elements so dear to an agricultural man's heart: sun, water, grapes as the fruit of the land, and fish as a symbol of religion.
All this thought and philosophy is continued with Capo Martino to obtain a wine that always expresses elegance with body and complexity.
